Last week Friday and Saturday was the Groundhog Marathon Whole Hog challenge, and I did alright, but there are consequences to victory.
Tuesday, I went to the podiatrist and had X-Rays done. X-Rays revealed bone spurs in my right ankle and arthritis developing in my right foot. I was sent to get a custom insole made, and the fitting for that is on Monday.
But, I’ve been feeling a little down in the dumper because of all this. The podiatrist said “conservatively, stop running” before going to the insole. And I went home and sighed before realizing I was down, but not dead.
And I started to think about what I could do. Immediately, I went to yoga and Pilates, as I can get a good workout without putting undue stress on my foot.
I thought about the elliptical, as that carried me when this problem reared its ugly head last year. Last year, this problem happened, and I recommended an insole to my doctor… she blew me off.
I thought about hooking up the indoor trainer and riding my bike in my apartment. Michigan Titanium is coming up, and I want to be off the bike in 4 hours. Same with Bear Lake sprint duathlon, Tri Del Sol Olympic, and MAYBE Grand Haven.
I have TurboFire, a high intensity cardio burner that offers modifications.
I have PiYo, a good yoga and Pilates mashup.
I can do a lot of stuff without causing more damage to my ankle. I will be cleared to run again. Just need to keep moving while I wait.
